Camera Lens Hire Guide We offer many Lenses for hire including Canon and Nikon lenses suitable for both video and photography assignments, and have broken the key elements down below for you to understand a little better the key factors to take into consideration when choosing which camera lens to hire.
Choosing a focal length Focal Length is probably the first point to consider when choosing which lens to use. Dependent on your circumstances, there are two main considerations, will you go for a fixed or zoom lens? The main reason that professional photographers opt for a fixed focal lens is generally fixed lenses offer a lower F stop (see below) and can therefore capture faster moving images using a faster shutter speed. This results in sharper images as more light enters the lens allowing a quicker exposure with fast action shots because a greater amount of light will enter the lens and onto the sensor. The problem with a fixed focal length is the inability to be able to frame your picture or video to make the most of the subject you are trying to capture. Many of the higher end zoom lenses offer good compromise and low F stops to allow for reframing of subjects with only a small sacrifice noticeable with a slower shutter speed. We have put together this example of different focal lengths used on one subject to clearly highlight the resulting magnification you would achieve.
As a guide the following lens examples are used by many professionals for the given projects.
14mm Used for internal room shots to capture as much of the room as possible or to capture large subjects when you need to be up close, gives a fantastic perspective on items around the main subject.
35mm A standard choice for people shooting video on the Canon 5D this lens will give you the same view as the human eye.
28-300mm From close up to zoom a great all rounder ideal for weddings or events that require a mixture of shots with the added bonus of only one lens.
70-200mm One of the most popular lenses due to the low F stop and ability to go from 70-200mm an ideal high quality lens that will cover most everyday requirements with ease from studio and sports to nature work.
300mm A fixed focal length lens of superior quality used by the press at football and sporting events for the ultimate results.
100-400mm Great for Safaris and sports events the Canon version of this lens allows you to slide the focal length so you can frame shots from a wide to zoom perspective extremely quickly.
Image Stabilsation Or Vibration Reduction IS and VR as they are know from the relevant manufacturers is a feature that optically removes the shake from your shot, Selected Canon Lenses feature image stabilisation as designated by the IS and the Nikon lenses as designated VR this feature will assist greatly in ensuring your pictures or video are as sharp as possible and should always be a consideration when hiring larger lenses of 200mm and above.
